Vintage Style Icon: Betty Grable

I first fell in love with Betty Grable and her most charming smile in the 1953 movie "How to Marry A Millionare" with Marilyn Monroe and Lauren Bacall. Then I saw "Pin Up Girl" and "Moon Over Miami" and thought she was just so cute. What's is your favorite Betty Grable movie?


Betty Grable had the most famous legs in Hollywood and were insured for $1,000,000 by Llyods of London. It's interesting that in our times her legs would be considered on the curvy side. In my opinion she still has amazing legs!

How They Measured Up: Measurements of Vintage Hollywood's Leading Ladies

My ideal female form are the figures of women in the 1940s and 1950s. On the thinner side, I adored Audrey Hepburn for her gamine appearance, but there is nothing quite like a bombshell figure, no?

How did women stay so slender back then without looking sickly skinny? I wonder why they did not have that "I need a sandwich, like now!" look as popularized by many celebrities these days. Brigitte Bardot had a 19" waist, NINETEEN! Instead they look wonderfully feminine and soft.

Saturday Vintage Inspiration: Betty Grable

I was watching "How to Marry a Millionaire" (1953) last night with Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall, and Betty Grable and just found Betty to be so charming. I've always seen photos of Betty, after all she was the number one pin-up girl during World War II, but this was the first movie I saw with her in it.

The fashions in "How to Marry a Millionare" are quite cute! The three girls portray models all intent to marry rich, (very very rich!) and use their good looks to reel in the men.



BTW, did you know that in her most infamous picture (the 2nd one posted here) she was 5 months pregnant?! I really hope I look that amazing!
