The arrival of a new baby is a great cause for celebration and understandably if you care about the parents you'll want to get a gift for the baby to welcome them into the world. But at the same time, if you want your gift to stand out you'll have to do a lot more than just get a cuddly toy or a pack of t-shirts.

Getting a personalised gift for a baby is much more likely to be appreciated by parents and will show you have put some extra thought into getting a gift. If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary a sign for the baby's bedroom door is a good start. With plenty of designs to choose from it should be easy to find something to match the baby's personality.

Another gift that lends itself nicely to personalisation is the photo frame. Whatever the style of frame - perhaps wood, glass or silver - a simple engraving of the baby's name will instantly make the frame more attractive. If you're a close friend or relation of the parents you might have some lovely photos of the baby yourself - including a selection of these for the parents to put in the frame is an added way of personalising your gift.

It is likely that many people will turn to baby clothes for an easy gift idea. Show that you have given your gift extra thought by having personalised clothes. Feel free to be cute or funny with your personalisations, there's no need to be too serious - if you can't think of something suitable yourself there will be plenty of ideas online.

Parents can be bombarded with gifts upon the arrival of a baby, so it might be worth finding out if there's anything in particular they need - but from that point you'll want to put your personal touch on the present. And there's no easier personal touch than getting the gift personalised. It may also be appropriate to include yourself in the personalisation, especially if you are close friends or family, so do think carefully and be creative about the way you personalise gifts.
