The savvy vacation planner has and exciting but somewhat overwhelming responsibility when planning the perfect vacation. With a family sometimes it is a little more difficult to decide on a destination, hotel and activities that all the family can enjoy and take part. Pictures are beautiful and inviting. The raves about each hotel make each one seem just the right one to choose. Having never been to the destination leaves the concientious traveler questioning what to do?

Finding just the right hotel for you and your family can be fun. Using search engines is an excellent way to begin. After you find several hotels that meet your family's criteria and needs be sure and read posted comments from those who know first-hand--past guests. After reading a number of overviews you will get an accurate feel for which hotel is best for your family.

When visiting a location that you have never been to before, consider using an international hotel chain. These chains establish minimal standards across their hotels. Some chains require that all their hotels include health clubs, business centers, spas, airport shuttle services and laundry services. If you have stayed at the chain before, then you have a good idea of what to expect at their facilities around the globe.

The cost of a hotel stay should not be solely based on price. Some of the less expensive hotels are quite lovely, charming and accomodating. Inquire if there are packages available through the hotel, airline and other services that offer discounts or honor frequent flyer miles. These can be helpful hints when traveling with a family.

Hotels offer different rates and discounts. The rates and discounts depend on the length and day of your stay, business or government affiliations and military status. You can also take advantage of special rates and discounts by joining the hotels' e-mail lists and travel websites. A Sunday night stay could be cheaper than a Friday night one. In some cases, a week's stay could be cheaper than three days.

Boutique hotels are great for families. Their charm, atmosphere and the personal attention given to each guest makes this type of hotel one in which to give strong consideration in selecting. Boutique hotels oftentimes provide more benefits than larger chain hotels and go that extra mile to assure your satisfaction.
