Nintendo first became a huge hit way back in the1980s. That time was crucial for the whole gaming industry. Atari has released some gaming consoles that did not do well in the market and causing a lot of mistrust from consumers. The situation was so bad in fact that there were those who were predicting the end of gaming consoles which was just in its infancy back then and all signs seems to be pointing out that way.
Then Nintendo came along and released the NES or the Nintendo Entertainment System and it was like the whole gaming industry received a tremendous boost. It did not take long for Nintendo to become the recognized leader in the industry. They came out with such excellent products like the Super NES and the N64 which solidified their industry leadership. They also released several titles that has become icons in gaming.
Years would pass before the leadership of Nintendo was even challenged. That happened only when PlayStation and Microsoft released their own video gaming consoles that used CDs instead of cartridges. That development was not much in the eyes of consumers at first, in fact it might have been seen as a drawback since discs were more liable to be damaged, but the developers felt the advantages of it right away and they started using it.
The problem was that Nintendo did not respond to the challenged posed by these devices. When they finally decided to react it was a halfhearted effort at best. That's why the Game Cube was such a weak offering. That was the start of the decline for Nintendo and they are still failing to make necessary changes together with all the developments that are happening in the world today.
The biggest evidence of this refusal to use these changes to their advantage are their efforts to block the use and sale of the r4 cards for their devices. They are still refusing to make any adaptations that will allow them to use different business models.
