A dog in the breed of the Bearded Collie is a pet that is not so big and has a weight of 40 to 58 lbs. Its height is within the range of 20 to 22 inches. It is an animal with plenty of fur which gives it a bigger look. It greets everyone with a joyful manner and strangers who would try to steal from your house are not an exception. So, you can't actually give this dog a task of guarding your family.

AKC made mentioned of this dog. A Bearded Collie is available in tan, fawn, brown, black and grey colors along with a few spots of the color white. Those white spots may be present or not in the early stages of their lives. Their fur may have a lighter color and even change once they start to grow. Their most usual mix of color will be white and gray or white and black. The coat in the upper part of their body is shaggy, straight and longer than the lower part which is thick and soft. These parts all need to be combed in a regular basis to keep away from any form of tangled hair. Since they have a fur that is long and shabby on the lower portion of their chin, they are branded with the "beardie" nickname.

This energetic, loving, happy-go-lucky breed makes an excellent family pet. They are people dogs and love to be with their family. They are wonderful for homes with children and other dogs and can do well with other non-canine pets provided they have early socialization. They are enthusiastic, outgoing, and lively and require plenty of exercise and play time. They need a yard to run and roam. Having toys on hand is a good idea if you are going to be gone for an extended period of time. Early training is recommended because they have a stubborn tendency at times. They are easy to train.

Dating back over 500 years, the Bearded Collie originated in Scotland. They are considered to be descendants of the Polish sheepdog. They were bred to heard sheep and cattle, thus explaining their collie name which means herding dog in Scotland. They have also been used for tracking. They are still used as sheep herding dogs in some areas.

Accommodating to all kinds of people, the Bearded Collie actively meets anyone. Since they need daily exercise and recreation outside, they are suitable for families which are enthusiastic as well. Whether you have other dogs and kids, an additional Bearded Collie is a huge plus for your whole family.
