Single: The Most Misused Word In The English Language?

Badge. It 'a simple thing. One of the words. But it is a word that is really my personal support. Businesses up and down the country to use it as if it were going out of fashion, but it is extremely rare to see a "unique" is properly used, and the canvas.

Companies love personalized gift while you use the term "unique". "Unique Gifts" and "unique gifts" are everywhere. But I can almost walk. Just. We rely on the proven fact that for a personalized gift, it can technically be considered a unique gift. After all, if spruce London, Boris Johnson Pfeffel had an existing personal against him, there is little chance that this is exactly the same product is available with the same title on it. And in an interview for these companies, they also mix in the term "this unique" with "exceptional gifts" - probably both selection and accuracy.

But undoubtedly the real causes and away the most damaging are the companies and visiting vacation providers, who often end up in my mythical port to the constant abuse of the word "unique." I find when I load the language of the court the right to be significant in the forms of English. In the event that I am sitting in a restaurant, for example, I doubt I take the thumb, is ... distinctive environment. "Now, you may include a pleasant feeling, but unless the writer has sampled all the other restaurants in each hotel else on the planet, can not claim that the individual," unique "feel.

Similarly, if I'm in my big room and luxury, it is doubtful that I like "... a particular sense of space." No, there is probably a good chance that I can romp around their 55m2 my socks only personal, but I'm really happy something unique? Of course not.

Why not get this right once and for all. If something is unique, there is a chance. It is unique. Original. The. The first and the last one. Exclusive. May be imitated but never equaled. The Great Wall in connection with the Far East is exclusive, and I do not mind seeing mentioned as such. Ditto St. Paul's Cathedral or the guy elephant. Distinctive does not cool, unusual or enjoyable. It does not mean strange and wonderful. In fact, the only thing that makes the real abuses even worse when someone describes something, because "quite unique", "very unique" or even "unique". It can be single or not. There is nothing in between. We are ready?

Thus, in particular on the basis of, we try to use the word "unique" correctly. In the end I am happy to accept it, is likely to occur. I'm not complaining or chunter if I can see clearly in the same sentence as Machu Picchu, or the aurora borealis. However, its difficult to read, in principle, the opportunity to own a distinctive limited edition coin minted to celebrate the royal wedding, especially when half of them comes to auction sites.

Rant over.
