Though the bathroom may not be the biggest room in the house, it is probably the most important. It can be your own personal haven where you can shut the door and relax or pamper yourself at the end of a long, tiring day. If it's been a while since you last upgraded your bathroom, there are ways that you can make it more enjoyable and pleasant to be. Your bathroom is important enough to update to where it can affect the value of your entire home. Creating the right feel in the bathroom is therefore vital.

A worst case scenario would be to do a major overhaul that includes updating the bath, shower, toilet and wash basin. What ever is old and worn will really stand out if the rest has been remodeled. There are so many designs that you can choose for your bathroom, from modern to classic, from simple to baroque. You will no doubt have a budget to stay within and therefore will need to shop around to work out prices and availability. Top of the range bathrooms can be found from companies creating bespoke designs. But more budget conscious set ups can be easily found at high street stores or online. Besides the design, you need to include the fitting costs into your budget. If it is too difficult to place the appliances in the bathroom by yourself, many companies offer to install it at an extra cost.

If you are not able to replace the entire bathroom at the moment, there are more inexpensive options. Old taps on a bath or wash basin can be replaced with new modern designs that can be found in any DIY store and can be fitted quite easily. Alternatively, you may want to replace a tatty shower curtain with a clear screen to provide a cleaner look and feel. These options are very affordable and very easy to upgrade. You could put in new tiles on the floor or wall to make your bathroom easier to clean. When looking at flooring, whether it's wood, carpet or tile, be sure that it can handle the humidity in your bathroom.

Other than changing out the main appliances in your bathroom, you can easily do other things to give your bathroom a brand new look. Decide on a color scheme that suits your mood. You could easily enhance the bathroom with bath mats, curtains, blinds or nice fluffy towels. There are too many to choose from, so take your time and enjoy figuring out your new look. Splashes of color can be added by pictures on the wall or creating a focal point which could include a potted plant or an arrangement of scented candles. Candles can not only provide color but it can also enhance the aroma of your bathroom. Other affordable options include adding a new soap dispenser, toilet roll holder or toilet brush.

Also, you should try to keep your bathroom clutter free by hiding away stuff you don't really need at that moment.
